Owen Jones Navy Roundel Pattern Sampler Canvas Print
A central navy circle filled with cream floral scrollwork sits amid a grid of contrasting motifs, including diamond lattice, dotted checks, and quatrefoil tiles, all capped above and below by flowing floral vine borders in deep blue and cream. This plate exemplifies Owen Jones's method of presenting a single culture's ornamental vocabulary through juxtaposed fragments, arranging a naturalistic floral roundel alongside several distinct geometric fillers to demonstrate the breadth of pattern types found within Chinese decorative art. The compartmentalized grid structure, divided by clean white channels, reflects his broader editorial approach to ornament, isolating each motif so its individual construction and repeat logic remain clearly legible. Printed on canvas, the deep navy against crisp cream holds sharp linework and clean divisions between each pattern zone, with a matte-like finish that keeps the two-tone composition feeling crisp and orderly. This piece suits classic, scholarly, or chinoiserie-inspired interiors, appealing to collectors of Owen Jones prints, navy and cream wall art, pattern sampler decor, or reference-style canvas prints that bring authentic historical detail to a room.
