Owen Jones Berry Branch and Squirrel Canvas Print
Clusters of red, green, and cream berries hang from twisting brown branches thick with green maple-like leaves, while small squirrels dart between the foliage against a cream ground softened by pale mauve cloud-like shadows and faint calligraphic scrollwork. This design stands apart from Owen Jones's more formal geometric repeats through its inclusion of animal life woven directly into the botanical scene, reflecting his interest in East Asian decorative traditions where narrative or naturalistic vignettes were often integrated into an otherwise repeating pattern. The soft mauve shading behind the branches, paired with faint script-like linework in the background, echoes brushwork techniques found in Chinese and Japanese pattern sources he documented, giving the composition an atmospheric, almost painted quality rather than a flat repeat. Printed on canvas, the warm cream ground against berry reds and forest greens holds rich color variation and fine branch detail, with a matte-like finish that keeps the layered mauve shadows feeling soft and painterly. This piece suits eclectic, whimsical, or nature-inspired interiors, appealing to collectors of Owen Jones prints, berry branch wall art, squirrel and foliage decor, or charmingly illustrated canvas prints that bring lively historical character to a room.
