Owen Jones Symmetrical Lotus Medallion Canvas Print
A formal, mirror-symmetrical arrangement of golden lotus blossoms and pale pink petals spreads outward from a central bloom against a deep royal blue ground, framed above by a small Chinese character motif and below by an ornamental clasp-like emblem. This composition reflects Owen Jones's interest in the strict bilateral symmetry found in Chinese decorative panels and textile borders, where a dominant central flower organizes the entire design and every curling leaf finds its mirrored counterpart on the opposite side. The inclusion of the calligraphic character and the stylized clasp motif at top and bottom signals a more literal architectural or textile-panel source than his freer, scrolling floral repeats, giving the piece a formal, almost heraldic quality. Printed on canvas, the royal blue ground against gold, cream, and soft pink holds fine detailed linework and rich tonal depth, with a matte-like finish that lends the formal symmetry a warm, tactile presence. This piece suits chinoiserie, formal traditional, or richly eclectic interiors, appealing to collectors of Owen Jones prints, symmetrical medallion wall art, blue and gold botanical decor, or ornate pattern canvas prints that bring stately historical elegance to a room.
