Owen Jones Jewel-Tone Lotus Scroll Canvas Print
Bold lotus blossoms in cream and navy anchor a swirling tangle of oversized curled leaves in emerald, pink, gold, and sky blue, all set against a dramatic black background that makes every color pop with enamel-like intensity. This pattern demonstrates Owen Jones's boldest use of a dark ground to intensify a multicolor palette, a technique he particularly admired in Chinese lacquerware and cloisonné objects where black backgrounds heighten the brilliance of applied color. The oversized, sculptural scrollwork here is far more abstracted than his floral trellis patterns, with thick ribbon-like curls taking precedence over naturalistic stems, giving the surface a heavier, more architectural rhythm than his lighter vine-based designs. Printed on canvas, the saturated jewel tones against deep black hold striking contrast and crisp enamel-like color separation, with a matte-like finish that lends the palette a rich, velvety depth. This piece suits maximalist, eclectic, or dramatic global-inspired interiors, appealing to collectors of Owen Jones prints, black-ground chinoiserie wall art, jewel-tone botanical decor, or bold pattern canvas prints that bring striking historical drama to a room.
