Cloudbanks in Ochre and Jade – Shin Bijutsukai Canvas Print
Sourced from *Shin Bijutsukai* (新美術海), Furuya Kōrin's Kyoto design journal published by Unsōdō during the transitional years spanning early Meiji to Taishō, this plate presents an energetic take on stylized cloud imagery. Drifting layers of orange, ivory, jade, and indigo move across a speckled sand-colored ground marked by delicate russet lines and scattered ink specks, recalling the decorative visual language traditionally used to suggest atmosphere in Japanese lacquerware and textile arts. The blend of warm terracotta tones against cool jade-blue hues gives the piece a dynamic, almost map-like energy, ideal for eclectic spaces or creative studios where texture and motion take precedence over strict balance. Its grainy, painterly quality pairs naturally with unfinished wood, woven natural fibers, or weathered brass accents. Reproduced as a canvas print with archival-grade clarity and a clean-edged, gallery-ready finish, this piece invites close inspection through its rich buildup of pattern and pigment. Well suited to collectors interested in Meiji-period design innovation, cloud and atmospheric themes, or bold, unexpected color combinations, this canvas offers a distinctly expressive touch to any curated wall display.
