Bronze Mirror and Cloud Fragments with Ribboned Cords Canvas Print
Included in *Shin Bijutsukai* (新美術海), the design anthology edited by Furuya Kōrin and produced by Kyoto's Unsōdō house in the early twentieth century, this plate brings together a cluster of overlapping cloud-shaped fragments — one marked with a dark grid of small squares, another scattered with cherry blossoms, another washed in soft grey striation — centered around a mirror-like disc engraved with facing phoenix or bird motifs, all interlaced with looping red and blue cords. The composition reads more like a study of Japanese ceremonial and decorative objects than a repeating textile pattern, calling to mind the ornamental mirrors (kagami) and cord ties (mizuhiki) used in traditional gift-wrapping and shrine offerings, with the cloud-shaped fragments suggesting kimono fabric swatches arranged around a central emblem. Its ceremonial quality and jewel-toned cording make it a natural fit for formal entryways, tea rooms, or spaces looking for a refined nod to Japanese decorative craft. Produced as a canvas print with finely rendered engraved detailing and rich cord coloring in a smooth, gallery-quality finish, this piece will appeal to collectors drawn to ceremonial or symbolic Japanese motifs, mirror and phoenix imagery, or the more narrative, object-based compositions occasionally found within the *Shin Bijutsukai* series.
