Two Women Walking in Rain with Umbrellas – Ohara Koson Print
Two elegant women in richly patterned kimono make their way through a soft, misty downpour, sheltered beneath a vivid orange-and-white *wagasa* (traditional Japanese paper umbrella) and a deep green companion, while swallows dart low across a rain-streaked sky in this evocative Ohara Koson bijin-ga print. This charming scene of Japanese women in the rain shifts away from Koson's signature bird-and-flower woodblock prints into the realm of *bijin-ga* (pictures of beautiful women), a genre celebrated for its graceful figures, flowing kimono textiles, and quiet narrative mood. The willow branches drooping overhead and the faint silhouette of rooftops in the distant fog evoke a tranquil, old-world Japanese village scene, while the geta sandals, obi sashes, and layered kimono patterns offer rich textile detail prized by collectors of vintage Japanese fashion illustration and ukiyo-e-inspired art. Available as a framed print with soft rain-washed tones, intricate umbrella and kimono patterning, and a polished gallery-quality finish, this piece is a lovely addition to entryways, reading nooks, or living rooms embracing traditional Japanese decor, wabi-sabi interiors, or East Asian art collections. It's an especially fitting choice for admirers of Japanese rain scene art, geisha and kimono wall decor, shin-hanga figurative prints, vintage Japanese village life illustrations, or Ohara Koson's rare forays into human-subject woodblock printmaking.
