Netted Dunes and Striped Tides – Shin Bijutsukai Framed Art Print
Featured in *Shin Bijutsukai* (新美術海), the Kyoto-based design periodical shepherded by Furuya Kōrin through Unsōdō's presses in the early 1900s, this plate layers three distinct pattern systems into a single composition: undulating blue-and-white striped bands suggesting tidal water, cross-hatched sandy dune shapes rendered in taupe lattice, and scattered geometric fragments in rust, plum, and ochre marked with tiny square motifs, floating across the surface like torn paper or drifting kites. The design's strength lies in its layering logic — three unrelated visual languages (stripe, net, and fragment) coexist without competing, a lesson in restraint despite the visual busyness. It works well in interiors already anchored by blue-and-white schemes, from coastal-leaning living rooms to kitchens with delft or indigo accents, adding pattern complexity without introducing new colors. Issued here as a framed print with sharp linework and a crisp, gallery-standard finish, the piece rewards slow looking thanks to its compositional layering. Recommended for collectors interested in abstracted landscape motifs, geometric textile fragments, or the more experimental, collage-like plates within the broader *Shin Bijutsukai* catalogue.
