Crimson & White Chrysanthemums by Flowing Water – Koson Print
Cascading clusters of crimson and ivory chrysanthemums spill across the top of this design by Ohara Koson, one of the most influential *shin-hanga* artists of early 20th-century Japan, their blossoms tumbling toward a stylized blue river that winds through an otherwise inky black backdrop. Koson often paired seasonal flowers with water in his compositions, and here the interplay is especially pronounced: the swirling, ribbon-like current at the base contrasts beautifully with the dense, layered petals above, while golden centers and jagged green foliage add texture and warmth to the scene. Chrysanthemums hold deep cultural significance in Japan, traditionally symbolizing longevity, autumn, and nobility, making this piece as meaningful as it is visually arresting. Offered as framed wall art with bold color saturation, fluid linework, and a smooth gallery-quality finish, this print brings striking impact to entryways, dining rooms, offices, or any space suited to Japanese-inspired decor. Fans of Koson's woodblock prints, autumn floral themes, chrysanthemum artwork, or Japanese river and water motifs will find this an eye-catching addition to a curated art collection.
